Gwalia 5

In 1897 when The Sons of Gwalia mine was created, miners were required to provide their own accommodation.  The area around the mine, now known as the Gwalia Precinct, was soon sprinkled with tents, and corrugated iron and hessian cottages of which this is one that still remains.

The painting captures the essence of the time and takes the viewer back in history to those harsh and dark days of survival.
